Following her 1994 victories as Miss India and Miss Universe, Sushmita made her way into the entertainment industry. A few years later, she began her career in film. Her previous appearance was in the Hotstar series Aarya. Because of her work on the show's first season, she won the Best Actor Female prize at the Filmfare OTT Awards. However, it's been more than ten years since she last made an appearance in a Hindi film. In a recent chat with Twinkle Khanna, Sushmita spoke about her daughters and her motherly instincts.

Sushmita adopted her elder daughter Renee when she was just 24. Renee was a severely ill infant who was unsuitable for adoption, according to Sushmita's memory. Sushmita handled her with extreme care. She recalled that her mother used to tell her that she was being overprotective and that she shouldn't rush to the clinic whenever the baby felt under the weather. The actress continued by describing a day when she was on set with Renee and Sushmita saw that she was wheezing. She claimed that she immediately drove to the hospital after getting in her car, “My daughter almost died that night and that was the instinct of a mother.”

Sushmita Sen was asked if having adopted girls meant it took longer for her to get to know them. She responded to the question, but she also mentioned how it irritates her when people give her parenting advice since her girls are adopted.

The 46-year-old actress said, “When you're an adoptive parent everybody in the world thinks they have a business of telling you how to raise your child because tumhe nahi aata hain (you don’t know how to). Maybe they'll tell me something that I should know because they have experience, but it still happens! They still think that they can tell me how best to raise my children because they're adopted. I find that extremely annoying and I have to spiritually awaken inside to forgive that sometimes.”
