Thar strikes a perfect balance between gritty and nuanced: Harshvardhan Kapoor

Actor Harshvardhan Kapoor is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Thar (2022), in which he features alongside his father Anil Kapoor. Set in the 1980s, the movie is a crime thriller inspired by Western noir genres and is directed by Raj Singh Chaudhary.

In Thar, Harshvardhan Kapoor plays Siddharth, an antique dealer travelling through a remote village in Rajasthan that has been rocked by many violent killings.

Throwing light on his role, Harsh says- "My character is that of an urban stranger who enters a quaint town and walks into the lives of the local characters (played by Fatima Sana Sheikh, Satish Kaushik and Surekha Singh). There's a certain ambiguity regarding him; you don't generally see a person like him in such a remote, interior town. He exudes an unnerving energy where you don't know if he's a good person or a bad one."

After seeing the trailer, many have remarked about the hauntingly beautiful setting of the film in the deserts of Rajasthan. Harshvardhan reveals that there was a reason for choosing the state as the backdrop.

"It was a tough shoot in terms of terrain. But then, Rajasthan was just apt as the setting. The locations are not just scenic but also symbolic for the characters and their emotional state. A rugged barren landscape is what we wanted for the film. It goes with the overall ambience of the movie and the characters, ," says the Mirzya (2016) actor.

Expressing confidence that Thar is a unique film in many ways, Harshvardhan says that the narrative of the movie is what makes it a path breaking one.

"Thar strikes a perfect balance between gritty and nuanced. It's a brutal film and there's violence. But the perspective and the way it is shown is so very different from the conventional way. This is what makes the narrative fresh and exciting, which will hold the attention span of the audience," he concludes.

Also starring Fatima Sana Sheikh, Satish Kaushik, Surekha Singh, Akshay Oberoi and Mukti Mohan, Thar will release online on Netflix on 06 May 2022.
