She portrays Shalini Unnikrishnan, a Tamil woman who converts to Islam and joins a terrorist group, in the film. Those who have seen the film have praised the actress' performance. People have also ridiculed her for appearing in a propaganda film. ‘The Kerala Story’ has, as we all know, been outlawed in various states because governments fear it may incite intercommunal strife.

She received a royal teasing for the same. Adah Sharma, incidentally, collaborated with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions on the 2004 film ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’.
