Once upon a time, Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta were close friends, but things changed when Kareena Kapoor Khan appeared. The age-old proverb that "someone else's loss is somebody else's gain" was the reason why many did not take Kareena and Preity very well. However, this time, Preity greatly benefited from Kareena Kapoor's loss, and Bebo made sure that everyone knew about it until PZ decided to change Bebo's attitude.

For some background information and references, Kareena's rejection of Karan Johar's Kal Ho Naa Ho and her last-minute decision to sign Sooraj Barjatya's Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon were the catalysts for their public spat. Not only that, but Karan Johar was forced to approach another actress after she stopped returning his calls; happily, Preity Zinta complied.

Kareena wanted to do more than just feel sorry for herself as Kal Ho Naa Ho evolved into a historical drama. She then made the decision to tell the media that she was the director's first pick. And she did it in nearly all of the interviews she could to ensure that everyone who is still alive in this universe knows that she was ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’s’ top pick.

Preity Zinta, however, did not take kindly to being referred to as the second choice, and she decided to talk about it on Karan Johar's very (in)famous couch. She responded, "I don't feel anything," when asked how it felt to fill Kareena Kapoor's shoes. My rationale is extremely straightforward. Imagine that you visit a store and choose to try on a pair of jeans. The fact that it fits you well yet you didn't purchase them makes them not your pants. It belongs to the following individual who visits, tries them on, and buys them.

"Once you gave me the script and I read it, I asked, 'Why does Kareena not want to do this film?'" Saif's response to the question of who would be a better Naina to his Rohit in the movie Kareena of Preity stole the stage, though.
