Last seen in Zero (2018) alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma has been missing from the scene for the past three years now. She did produce a few successful ventures for leading streaming media platforms in between, but her diehard fans are eagerly waiting to see her on the silver screen.
The actress was about to make her comeback last year with a biopic based on Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami. However, the coronavirus pandemic threw a wrench into the works and the makers had to put the project on hold. Titled Chakdah Express, the biopic was later reported to be going before cameras at the end of this year.
The latest update suggests that Anushka Sharma has opted out of the project and will no longer play Jhulan Goswami in her biopic. Actress Triptii Dimri, who won rave reviews for her performance in her Netflix film Bulbbul (2020), is now onboard to step into the shoes of Goswami. Sharma will only co-produce the film along with Sony Pictures India.
Earlier planned as a theatrical release, the biopic will now be made as a Netflix Original, as per reports. Prosit Roy, who directed Pari (2018) starring Anushka Sharma, is set to direct the biopic. He has reportedly kick-started preparations as the team is looking at beginning production in the first quarter of 2022.
