Trolls attack Ranbir Kapoor for acting in PK; trend #BoycottBrahmastra on Twitter

After Laal Singh Chaddha, Pathaan and Vikram Vedha, trolls on Twitter unleashed a hate campaign for Ranbir Kapoor's upcoming film Brahmastra: Part One Shiva, trending #BoycottBrahmastra on micro blogging site Twitter.
Alleging that Ranbir Kapoor worked with Aamir Khan in PK (2014), which allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus, a section of Twitter users are urging people to boycott Brahmastra: Part One Shiva.
Noteworthy, the recent boycott calls for Bollywood films have been vehemently criticised by many actors from the film fraternity, including Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan (whose film Laal Singh Chaddha fell victim to vilification and boycott trends). While Kumar urged people not to boycott films as it impacted the country's economy, Khan had appealed to viewers to watch his film and not boycott sensible cinema.
Noteworthy, Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah's recent release Darlings also faced boycott calls on social media. The film didn’t get an easy start and received flak with several 'ban Darlings' and 'boycott Alia Bhatt' hashtags trending on Twitter. The reason was that some felt the film glorified violence against men.
While watching or not watching a film is solely the choice of viewers, boycott trends and hate campaigns do affect a film's run as well as the word of mouth publicity. Let's just hope our audiences appreciate good cinema and do not fall prey to malignant campaigns unleashed by online trolls.
