She was aware of the industry's financial needs and the desire to make sure success by using well-known names. She noticed that the star system was becoming more important even in OTT, noting that there is a lot of pressure to cast well-known players, both from her point of view as an actor and as a director.
She did stress, though, that just being a star isn't enough on these platforms; real ability is still what leads to long-term success. In the same chat, Konkona talked about her childhood and how her mother Aparna Sen introduced her to Hindi and Bengali films that were popular at the time. She said that her mother kept her from watching 'The Bold and the Beautiful,' 'Santa Barbara,' and Indian epics like 'Ramayan' and 'Mahabharat.'
Konkona said that her mother wanted her to read these stories for herself instead of watching them on TV. She added that a person's first encounter with these epics should come from their own mind, not from someone else's version. This method led them to watch films from many different countries and regions.
Konkona also talked about how her mother helped her choose books and encouraged her to read more than just Indian writing. This order led her to read books from other countries, which she was happy to do as a child who followed rules.
