Karan Johar, one of the most successful filmmakers in Bollywood, has revealed that he thought his magnum opus 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' (K3G) would be a flop when it released in 2001.
In a recent interview, Johar said that he was very depressed when the film received a lot of bad reviews from critics. "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham released and I thought it would flop, we had really bad reviews like everyone was like 'old wine, new bottle same thing, turned over' and I was actually really very depressed when it released," he said.
Johar also recalled a particular review that left him feeling very disheartened. "I remember there was a trade critic who gave a really bad review to the film and he wrote at the end 'Overall the film will disappoint all concerned' and I was like, I remember reading and I was like my film's going to flop," he said.
However, Johar's fears were unfounded. 'K3G' went on to become a massive blockbuster, grossing over Rs 1 billion worldwide. It also became one of the most iconic Bollywood films of all time.
Johar's story is a reminder that even the most successful filmmakers can have doubts about their work. It is also a reminder that critics' opinions should not be taken too seriously.
'K3G' is a classic Bollywood film that has entertained audiences for over two decades. It is a testament to Karan Johar's filmmaking skills that he was able to create such a timeless film.
