The family quarrel has come to light after Dharmendra wrote an emotional message apologising to Hema Malini, his daughter Esha, and Ahana Deol. A video of Hema Malini describing how Dharmendra was often absent from the lives of her daughters Esha and Ahana Deol has gone viral. Dharmendra's second wife was Hema Malini.
Previously, the renowned actor was married to Prakash Kaur. He has four children: sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, as well as daughters Vijeeta and Ajeita.
Hema Malini appeared as a guest on Simi Garewal's renowned chat programme. Esha and Ahana Deol, her daughters, accompanied her. When the host asked Hema Malini if partners being supportive of each other is a requirement in a relationship, the actress said that it is more vital to make a few decisions. She went on to say that in her case, Dharmendra was preoccupied with work and did not participate much in decision-making involving their girls.
During the interview, Hema Malini recounted how Dharmendra was picky about how his daughters dressed. She said, “He likes them to always be in salwar kameez. So, my daughters, the moment he’s coming, they’ll wear salwar kameez and come."
Esha Deol, who was 17 at the time, agreed with her mother. She said, “He (Dharmendra) doesn’t like us wearing sleeveless tops and short pants. Whenever he comes home, we wear trousers or salwar kameez.”

Esha also revealed some disturbing details concerning Dharmendra's religious beliefs. The actress claimed that her father forbade them from attending parties and activities because he preferred them to stay at home. Esha credited Hema Malini as her and Ahana's sole source of support.
“Mama’s there so we manage to go out for sports,” she further added.
The statements made by Hema Malini and Esha Deol did not sit well with Reddit users, who criticised Dharmendra and his mentality in the comments section. According to one of the users, “With a father like that who is selectively available, maybe they enjoyed him not being around much.”
Another one called, “a bright red flag.”
Dharmendra will next be seen in Karan Johar's 'Rocky Aur Ranii Kii Prem Kahaani,' which stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh.
