About The Offer
Vidhu shared that Amitabh was impressed with his student film 'Murder at Monkey Hill' and asked him to work with him on a project. However, while Vidhu was waiting for Amitabh to finalize the deal, he received an offer from Doordarshan to direct a TV series.
Doordarshan offered Vidhu ₹4,500 for the project, as well as a vehicle for commuting. This was a significant sum of money at the time, and Vidhu decided to take up the offer.
The Reason Behind Turning Down Amitabh Bachchan's Offer
When Vidhu informed Amitabh of his decision, the actor was surprised. He asked Vidhu if he was crazy to turn down his offer for a Doordarshan project. However, Vidhu explained that he needed the money and that Doordarshan had assured him that he could do anything he wanted with the project.
Amitabh was understanding and told Vidhu that he could do anything with him as well. However, Vidhu was still hesitant, as he was unsure if Amitabh would actually follow through on his promise.
In the end, Vidhu decided to go with Doordarshan's offer. He went on to make his directorial debut with the TV series 'Nukkad', which was a critical and commercial success.
