A second FIR has been registered against the makers and cast of the upcoming film 'Yaariyan 2' on charges of allegedly hurting Sikh sentiments. This new case involves producer Bhushan Kumar, directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, and actor Meezaan Jafri, who are now facing legal trouble in Punjab due to the portrayal of Meezaan wearing a 'kirpan' in a song from the movie.
The complaint was lodged by the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC) in response to the song in question, which they claim disrespects Sikh Maryada (conduct), tradition, and lifestyle. The FIR, filed at Division PS by Amritsar Police, invokes Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.
The SGPC alleges that the filmmakers incorrectly depicted the Sikh Kakaar Kirpan for publicity and financial gain. They are demanding a thorough investigation and immediate action, including the removal of the controversial video song from all online platforms. This development comes on the heels of a similar FIR filed by the Sikh Talmel Committee, a collective of Sikh organizations.
'Yaariyan 2,' directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, is scheduled for release on October 20, 2023. The film is produced by Divya Khosla Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Aayush Maheshwari under the banner of T-Series Films and Sapru Films Production. The cast includes Pearl V Puri, Divya Khosla Kumar, Priya P Varrier, Yash Daasguptaa, Meezaan Jafri, Anaswara Rajan, and Warina Hussain in pivotal roles.
The original 'Yaariyan' film was released in 2014 and was directed by Divya Khosla Kumar.
