This weekend something unusual happened, a docudrama performed incredibly well at the box-office. Sachin: A Billion Dreams scored really well in its docudrama genre.
Generally, docudrama has dim prospect at the box-office, but Sachin Tendulkar ’s autobiographical film turned out to be an exception. In week 1, it collected 8.40 Cr on Friday, 9.20 Cr on Saturday and 10.25 Cr on Sunday. Thus, total box-office collection of all the languages stands to 27.85 Cr.
This week there were no major releases in Bollywood. However, Hollywood had two big films – Johnny Depp’s Pirates Of Caribbean and Brad Pitt’s War Machine releasing in this week. But Sachin: A Billion Dreams faced no serious opposition from them.
Trade Analyst predicts a better future of Sachin’s docudrama. Considering his fan-following in India, it will be going strong even during the weekdays.
Directed by James Erskine , film Sachin: A Billion Dreams is released in five languages – Hindi, English, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil. It has been declared tax-free in a number of Indian states.
