Advait Chandan ’s ‘ Secret Superstar ’ released last year in October and did a decent business in the domestic markets. Made on a budget of 15 crores, the movie managed to collect around 60 crores in India but things changed in no time when it had its Chinese premiere. As ‘ Secret Superstar ’ has an extended cameo of Aamir Khan , the movie did exceptionally well business in Chinese markets. We all know Aamir is a superstar in China and his last film, ‘ Dangal ’, did a record-breaking business of $ 190 million, which helped SS to create the same magic. Zaira Wasim starrer SS released in China on 19th January and on day 1, it did a tremendous business of $ 6.79 million i.e. 43.35 crores. Interestingly, SS did more business on its 1st day as compared to ‘ Dangal ’.
Previously, Maoyan.com, a leading Chinese online movie ticket seller and fan rating site, had estimated that ‘ Secret Superstar ’ will make around $7 million in its opening day. The movie may have fallen a bit short of that prediction, but the site went on to say that it will gross onto make $84 million (Rs 540 crore) by the end of its lifetime run. If the estimate indeed comes true then with Rs 540 crore from China and around Rs 150 crore from India and other overseas markets, Secret Superstar will become the biggest Bollywood grosser of 2017 worldwide.
