James Cameron's Avatar: The Way Of Water is a solo ruler at the Indian box office, and the movie is holding up well there thanks to well-received material and extremely profitable ticketing days from the end of the year till the new year. Avatar was confidently expected to become the second-highest Hollywood grosser of all time in India following a strong first week with over Rs. 190 cr nett. But now that the second weekend and second Monday have both surpassed the previous record-holder, Avengers: Endgame, the movie will be vying for the top spot on the list of highest-ever Hollywood grosser in India.
Avatar: The Way of Water hits it big on its second Monday
The rich post-Christmas box office week is mostly being made by Avatar: The Way Of Water. Avatar 2's second Monday revenue is about Rs. 12.5 crore nett (Rs. 15.5 crores gross), which is higher than its second Friday revenue. It appears that if receipts continue to rise during the rest of the week, it would be in a good position to surpass the enticing Rs. 300 crore net mark on its third Friday and then try to surpass Avengers: Endgame somewhere in mid-January.
International records and achievements
On Tuesday, the movie is anticipated to surpass $1 billion in worldwide box office receipts. At the Golden Globes the following year, the movie is up for two categories. It is competing for Best Dramatic Motion Picture and Best Director for James. Additionally, the National Board of Review and the American Picture Institute selected the science fiction film as one of the top 10 movies of 2022.
