Hollywood Horror Sensation IT beats the Bollywood competition at the box office!

One fact every trade pundit of Indian cinema would agree that Hollywood horror films are more likely to strike box office success in the Indian market, but no one thought it would overtake Bollywood films in terms of collections. Hollywood horror sensation released last Friday on 8th September and much like in international market, Indian viewers also welcomed the sensational horror flick with utter excitement! And as per the numbers that came out, it seems Bollywood films fell flat on the face!

The movie IT was based on Stephen King’s novel and popular mini-series in the 90’s and being familiar with the audience resulted a massive box office reception of $180 million, which is Rs 1150 crores in Indian currency in its first four days! IT released in the all major languages in the theatres across India and received a moderate opening in of 1.67 crores on the first Friday and the box office collection in Indian market till Tuesday is Rs 10.07 crores, which is way more as compared to Bollywood releases. If we compare it with the box office collection of Poster Boys , it made Rs. 9.40 crores till this Tuesday and on the other side, the film Daddy , the Arjun Rampal gangster film made Rs 5.25 crores!

Denzil Dias, Vice President and Managing Director of Warner Bros Pictures India expressed the excitement by saying, “We couldn’t be more thrilled with the results, and congratulate New Line Cinema, director Andy Muschietti and his phenomenal cast and crew on this fantastic opening.” And also considering the positive reviews from both critics and viewers, it wouldn’t be surprising news if the film crossed the 20 crores milestone in the Indian market!
