'John Wick: Chapter 4' is also doing well in India, as seen by the rise in attendance with each passing day. Despite the franchise's popularity in the States, it still only appeals to a small segment of the population due to its hardcore action genre, which focuses more on man-to-man combat than flying cars.
Such movies don't truly appeal to a wide audience. In India specifically, the most successful movies are usually those in the 'Fast & Furious', 'Mission: Impossible,' or 'Marvel series.'
The Keanu Reeves-starring film has proven to be an exception, though, since it is building a strong fan base. This is evident from the day-over-day growth in receipts, which have reached an astonishing Rs 27 Crores.
The film, in fact, ended up coming close to a double-digit score on Sunday with Rs 9.50 Crores, which is really good as one would have expected these to be the weekend numbers instead.
Another action movie, 'Bholaa' from Bollywood, will be released on Friday. Given that there are only a limited number of IMAX screens in India, it would be interesting to observe how the screen division for both blockbusters plays out in the coming weeks. The Ajay Devgn starrer will also be exhibited in the IMAX version.
