The much talked about film ' Bombay Velvet ' witnessed a poor opening in the morning shows and had the slow paced occupancy in the latter half of the first day i.e. first Friday. The first day box-office collections of the Anurag Kashyap 's movie starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma totals up to the sum of Rs. 5.20 crore. The period drama is a high budget film and with such a low opening it seems difficult for the makers to recover the cost.
The screen count of the film was around 2600 in the domestic markets. It received mixed reviews and has a fairly negative word of mouth. Hence, it is crucial for the film to pick up during the weekend and the coming weekdays else there are chances of it falling flat.
Directed and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap , ' Bombay Velvet ' is based on Gyan Prakash's book 'Mumbai Fables' which discloses the love tale of a street fighter and an aspiring jazz singer. The movie also stars Karan Johar in a villainous avatar and Manish Choudhary and Satyadeep Mishra play the supporting roles.
