This time, the ace director Abhinav Kashyap preferred to arrive with a comic caper ' Besharam ' and it was an entirely star-driven flick, as it featured Ranbir Kapoor along with his star parents, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh and the female lead was played by the newbie Pallavi Sharda . Breaking the trend of friday release, ' Besharam ' released on a national holiday Wednesday, on October 2, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. It was released in 3600 screens in India and 700 screens in foreign countries, which can be counted as the widest release till today.
Albeit, the film commenced with a positive note, it began to slip at the box office in the further stages. Earlier, we reported first day box office collection of ' Besharam ' as 24 crore nett and 7.13 crore nett on Thursday. The film got mixed reviews from the critics and it was evident that the film could neither please the critics nor the viewers. Made out of budget of around 60 crore, ' Besharam ' collected 5.68 crore nett on Friday, 5.94 crore nett on Saturday and on Sunday, it garnered 7.15 crore nett. Hence, the total domestic box office collection on the first weekend of its release, can be summed up to 47.46 crore nett.
From the above mentioned figures, it is witnessed that the blitzkrieg promotions and marketing could not lend a helping hand to the film at the box office. The Kapoor trio also could not pull the audience to the theater over pitiable content and weak direction. Although, the satellite rights and ancillary revenues will assist the filmmakers in recovering their money, the film can be tagged as a washout at the box office. The performance of the film in the first week of its release will carve the further journey of ' Besharam '.
