Looks like all the hard work of Sanjay Leela Bhansali is now paying off. After months and months of controversy, Bhansali’s magnum opus, ‘ Padmaavat ’, finally saw its full-fledged release on 25th January and is scoring big at the box office. On 24th, the movie released in the nights shows and minted Rs. 5 crore through paid previews. On 25th, it opened nationwide, except in 4 crucial states, and put up a great show by racking up Rs. 19 crores. Despite being banned in 4 major states of India, the film continued to do well and swelled phenomenally well on Friday, adding a mammoth business of Rs. 32 crores to its total tally. ' Padmaavat ' is expected to continue doing the same on Saturday and Sunday. So far the movie has collected Rs. 56 crores in 3 days. (Wed – 5 cr. Thu – 19 cr. Fri – 32 cr.)

The movie was made on a lavish budget of 180 crores and needs around 250-300 crores to turn into a profitable venture. Despite the big ban in 4 states, the whole nation has accepted the movie with open arms and hence it is doing exceptionally well. The overseas collections are also impressive. Though the movie is yet to release in all major countries, it has collected more than a crore in UK and Australia.

The film stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. The supporting cast includes Jim Sarbh , Aditi Rao Hydari and Raza Murad .
