Aamir Khan was born to an Indian Muslim family of Tahir and Zeenat Hussain in Bandra, Mumbai. He comes from a very affluent family. He is related to Indian Freedom fighter Abul Kalam Azad, Former President Dr. Zakir Hussain. His father was a film producer while, uncle Nasir Hussain was an actor, director and producer. Actor Faizal Khan is his sibling. Actor Imran Khan is his Nephew. Director Kiran Rao is his second wife.
Aamir was a child actor and acted in films like 'Yaadon ki Baarat' and 'Madhosh'. His adult acting debut happened in Ketan Mehta's 'Holi' at the age of 19 which went unnoticed. He caught the much needed attention of the industry through his 1988 movie 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' along with Juhi Chawla. His chocolate hero looks worked in this romantic drama. He got a National Award in special jury award category for his critically acclaimed role in 'Raakh'. The film won a BAFTA award. After it, released 'Fanaa' a commercial hit. In 2007, he tried his hands in Direction and got rewarded for 'Taare Zameen Par'. In 2008, 'Ghajini' was the highest grossing film of that year. In 2009, he appeared in Rajkumar Hirani's '3 Idiots '. The film became one among highest grossing Bollywood films of all times. The movie garnered 6 Filmfare, 10 screen and 16 IIfa awards. His 2012 movie 'Talaash' also rocked at the box office.
Amir has received Padma Shri in 2003 and Padma Bhushan in 2010 for his contribution towards Art.
