Abbas Burmawalla Biography
Abbas Burmawalla is one of the directors from the famous pair Abbas-Mustan. Abbas is well known for making suspense-thrillers along with brother Mustan. Other than Mustan he also has a second brother Hussain Burmawalla. They hail from Surat, Gujarat. Their family business was furniture dealing. But these two had their own plans. Approaching uncle S.D Kura, who was a film editor in those days, Abbas along with brother Mustan entered the industry as editors on uncle's advice. They gradually secured the position of assistant directors under Sultan Ahmed in the movie 'Ganga ki Saugandh' (1978). Also, along with Govindbhai Patel they did some movies only until Patel refused to direct a Gujarati movie 'Sajan Tara Sambharana'. This movie was taken by the two brothers as their directorial debut. Later, they directed some Gujarati movies and steadily stepped into directing Hindi Movies.
From,their first movie 'Agneekal' in the year 1990, they have never looked back. Now, they also possess their own Production house called 'Burmawalla Partners'. They are known for repeating their actors. Amisha Patel, Bobby Deol and Akshaye Khanna are considered to be their favorites. They are also famous for presenting gray shaded characters to which Abbas says that "We make Lovable Negative Characters which the audience accept and like". Also allegations are that most of their movies are inspired by some Hollywood or other movies. The duo has numerous super hit movies in their kitty such as 'Baazigar', 'Khiladi', 'Humraaz', 'Aitraaz' and 'Race'. Abbas has recently directed 'Race 2'.
