Abhay Singh Deol aka Abhay Deol, the handsome young guy is recognized for his cute dimples and skilled performance. He is best known for his role in the film 'Dev D'. The actor who has got critical acclaim for his natural performance comes from the family which is attached with film making since two generations. Abhay , who bowls over many girls with his cute dimples was born on 15th March 1976 in Mumbai. He comes from a Punjabi Sikh Family. His mother's name is Usha Deol and his father is Ajit Singh Deol. Abhay is a nephew of yesteryear superstar and legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra which makes Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol as his first cousin brothers and Esha Deol and Ahana Deol as his cousin sisters. Abhay is currently in a relationship with actress Preeti Desai.
Abhay has done his graduation from Mumbai University and later he moved to Los Angeles to study Fine Arts. He has done a two year acting course and later decided to join the Film Industry as he was already actively involved in theatre. Joining the league of Bollywood actors was a huge step for Abhay. His father insisted him to join the film industry. Abhay marked his Bollywood debut with Imtiaz Ali's light romantic comedy 'Socha Na Tha' with Ayesha Takia. The movie was adorable and appealing. His second venture was 'Ahista Ahista' where he was paired with Soha Ali Khan. Later he starred opposite Minissha Lamba in a multistarer flick 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd'. The movie had veteran actors like Kay Kay Menon, Boman Irani, Shabana Azmi and Sandhya Mridul , still Abhay marked his presence on screen with his natural and easy appearance. He played a key role in 'Manorama Six Feet Under' which was an important release of that year. The movie was critically acclaimed for its extraordinary script and actors' performances. Abhay Won the Best Actor Award at the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival in NYC for this film.During that same year, Abhay was featured in 'Ek Chalis Ki Last Local'.
In the year 2008, Abhay was seen doing an off-beat role in 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!' which was a surprise hit that year. The film won many awards at the prestigious Filmfare awards of that year. The year 2009 proved to be lucky for Abhay as he got an opportunity to play modern Devdas in Anurag Kashyap's film 'Dev D'. The film went on to become a cult classic because of Anurag Kashyap's brilliant direction and Abhay's fabulous acting. The film is recognized as Abhay's best performance till date.
In 2010, he was seen with Tannishtha Chatterjee in 'Road, Movie'. Same year, he was starred opposite Sonam Kapoor in 'Aisha'. The film could not attract the audience. Next year, Abhay was seen in 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' made by Zoya Akhtar. The movie proved to be surprisingly different and a fresh breath of air. The movie was different and it had unique content. Abhay got trained himself for deep sea diving for this movie.
In 2012, Abhay acted in a socio-political drama 'Shanghai' which critics and audiences found to be brilliant and engrossing. Lately he played a key role in 'Chakravyuh'. Abhay who is known as a talented actor has carved his niche in the film industry in a very short span of his career. Abhay is famous for doing good, out of the box and offbeat cinema and has pretty much excelled at his work. He is a promising actor of today and tomorrow.
Currently, he is working on 'Basra' his home production which will be the first film to be produced by his company Forbidden Films. For this film, Abhay got trained in KravMaga, a renowned Israeli martial art form. Besides this, he will be shortly seen in 'Raanjhanaa' with Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush. He will be also seen in 'Singularity' ,'One By Two' and 'Rock The Shaadi'.
