Adnan Sami Biography

He is a multitalented persona, as he is a singer, composer, musician and pianist. Adnan Sami has a Pakistani native and the man has supreme command over Indian and Western classical, Jazz, Semi-classical notes and Rock and Pop music. Adnan was brought up in UK by his mother Naureen and father Arshad Sami Khan. He was born in a Pakistani Pathan family. He spent a luxurious childhood in UK. Originally named as Adnan Sami Khan, he was born on 15th August, 1969 in London, England. He completed his schooling from Rugby School in London. Adnan arrived in India to try his luck and received name and fame owing to his excellent musical skills.

Adnan resides in Mumbai and he has got the professional training from the great Santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma in Indian Classical music. He began his career with Classical music, then he moved to Jazz followed by Pop-Rock. Adnan served as Ambassador of Pakistan over fourteen years and also as the Federal Secretary to the Government of Pakistan. At the tender age of five years, Adnan commenced playing piano. His first music piece was incepted by him at the age of nine years. During his India visits in school vacations, Sami used to take lessons from Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. It was the legendary songstress Asha Bhosle, who noticed the spunk in ten year old Adnan at one of the Rahul Dev Burman concert and she lent a great support to him to make his career in singing. Adnan then did his graduation from London-based King's College, University of London. He was the one, who played Indian classical music on the electric piano for the very first time. The year 1986 saw Adnan Sami's first English smash hit releasing in the middle-east that topped the chartbusters. 'The One & Only' was Adnan's first formal Indian Classical album in the year 1989 with the tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain. 'Raag Time' and 'Teri Yaad', 'Press Play', 'Live In Karachi', 'Ecstasy', 'Behta Darya', 'Always Yours', 'Badaltey Mausam', 'Ek Ladki Deewani Si' and 'Kisi Din' were his other albums. The 1994 Pakistani release 'Sargam' was the film for which Adnan composed music for the very first time. Asha Bhosle did playback singing for the film, whereas Adnan played the lead actor in it. In 2000, Adnan teamed up with Asha Bhosle for the Indian album 'Kabhi To Nazar Mialo' and this album songs topped the chartbusters by becoming a huge hit. 'Lift Kara De' was his another super hit album and Adnan Sami became a musical sensation. The other films for which Adnan lent his voice include 'Ajnabee', 'Money Hain To Honey Hain', 'No Smoking', 'Deewanapan', 'Awara Paagal Deewana', 'Saathiya', 'Koi... Mil Gaya', 'Yuva', 'Aitraaz', 'Naach', 'Jurm', 'Page 3', 'Taxi No. 9211', 'Garam Masala', 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', 'Salaam-E-Ishq', 'Dulha Mil Gaya', 'My Name is Khan', 'Life in a Metro', 'Taare Zameen Par', 'U Me Aur Hum', 'Tahaan', 'Kidnap', 'Rush', '3G' and many more.

Talking about his international awards, Adnan was acknowledged by UK's Keyboard Magazine as the Keyboard Discovery of The 90's as well as he won Nigar Award, the Graduate Award and the Bolan Academy Award. At the UK Asian Music Awards in 2008, Adnan won 'Best International Act' title.

Adnan Sami was married to Zeba Bakhtiar in the year 1993 and the couple divorced post three years of marriage. They have a son, Azaan Sami Khan. He remarried in 2001 with Sabah Galadari, an Arab from Dubai. They got separated after some years and the singer tied the knot for the third time in 2010 with Roya Faryabi, a lady with Afghan origin. Adnan Sami was asked to leave India in October 2013 due to expiry of his visa by Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena.
