Amjad Khan is an Indian actor who is splendidly known as Gabbar Singh, after the part he played in Sholay. 

Amjad
Amjad Khan was born on Nov 12, 1940 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. His father is actor Jayant. Imtiaz Khan and Inayat Khan are his brothers. 

After finishing his schooling from St Theresa's High School, he graduated from R D National College in Mumbai. 

He wed Sheila Khan and the mates had two boys Shadaab Khan, Seemaab Khan, and a girl named Ahlam Khan.

Career
As an actor :
In 1957, he appeared in a movie, Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, as a child artist and subsequently made his movie debut with Hindustan Ki Kasam. The most unforgettable part played by Amjad was of Gabbar Singh in Sholay. This film talked about the Chambal dacoits and he played the head of the gang. It starred actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharamendra, Hema Malini, and Jaya Bachchan. 

After this movie he appeared as Amitabh's best friend in the superhit, Yaarana, and afterwards as his father in Laawaris. The actor was also seen in Utsav, an art film. Amjad played a character named Vaatsyaayan in this film . In movies like Qurbani (1980), Love Story, and Chameli Ki Shaadi (1986) he played comic roles . 

Amjad has played the part of a don in an English cinema, The Perfect Murder. 

As a director :
Amjad Khan directed two movies, Chor Police (1983) and Ameer Aadmi Gareeb Aadmi (1985), both of which bombed at the box office. 


Death
Amjad Khan forgathered with an stroke and the drugs given to him resulted in weighting amplification and finally led to his death in 1992 because of heart failure.
