Annu Kapoor Biography

The multifaceted guy Annu Kapoor is a well known actor , a very good singer and very entertaining and engaging host as well. We all know him as a host of yesteryears musical reality show Zee TV Closeup Antakshari. Annu Kapoor was born on 20th February 1956 in Bhopal , Madhya Pradesh. His real name was Anil Kapoor but to avoid confusion with superstar Anil Kapoor, he changed his name to Annu which is his nickname. Annu Kapoor once said that he wanted to be a surgeon when he was a child but his family could not afford to send Annu in a medical college.

In 1976, Annu Kapoor joined the famous National School Of Drama in Delhi. Annu Kapoor's father Madanlal was an owner of a travelling Parsi Theatre group which used to travel among various cities and towns for shows. Annu's mother was a very brilliant and scholar lady. She was a poet and a trained classical dancer. His mother was a proficient in the languages like Urdu, Persian, Arabic, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi , Marwadi, Gujarati and many other north Indian dialects. Kapoor's family was closely associated with the arts and patriotism. Annu Kapoor's elder brother Ranjit is a screenwriter and director while his sister Seema is a producer and director. She was married to the actor Om Puri but later divorced. Kapoor's younger brother Nikhil is a writer and lyricist. Annu Kapoor has four children, three sons and one daughter from his two marriages.

Annu Kapoor started his career journey as a stage artist in 1979 and got noticed for his fabulous performance in the film 'Ek Ruka Hua Faisla'. He made his debut with the film 'Mandi' in 1983. During the 30 years of his career span, he has acted in numerous films, hosted many TV shows and reality game shows. Some of the shows in which he appeared are 'Antakshari - The Great Challenge', 'Idea Jalsa' ,'Kabir' ,'Wheel Smart Shreemati' ,'Ek Se Badhkar Ek' ,'Khari Khari' ,'Junoon Kuch Kar Dikhane Ka' and now he is hosting 'Golden Era With Annu Kapoor' on Mastiii Channel.

Recently he has appeared in 'Yamla Pagla Deewana 2' along with the Deol trio. He has recently received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his fabulous performance as Dr. Baldev Chaddha in 'Vicky Donor'.
