Apoorva Lakhia is an Indian Film Director. Apoorva was schooled at the Lawrence School, Sanawar. He had taken admission in New York University in a Film Making course but dropped out of it to assist Mira Nair in 'The Prez Family'. He assisted in Hollywood movies like 'The Ice Storm', 'A Perfect Murder' and 'Addiction to Love'.
Apoorva assisted Ashutosh Gowarikar in 'Lagaan' in 2001 as recommended by Farhan Akhtar to Aamir Khan, who was looking out for someone with international experience. Apoorva had also worked as an assistant director for the movie 'Kama-Sutra (A Tale Of Love)' (1996).
He made his debut as a movie director in 2002 with film 'Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost'. His second film was 'Ek Ajnabee' released in 2005 and starred Amitabh Bachchan. It was a remake of Hollywood film 'Man on Fire'. Both the films did not work for him. But in 2007, he directed 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' based on the life of underworld gangster Maya Dolas and Dilip Buwa. It starred Vivek Oberoi, Tusshar Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt. It was applauded critically and commercially. In the same year, he also directed a short story in the movie 'Dus Kahaniyaan'. His next film was 'Mission Istaanbul' starring Vivek Oberoi and Zayed Khan.
He also wrote the story for 'Hide & Seek' (2009), which is directed by Shawn Arahana. Lakhia wrote and directed all the movies from his debut till 'Mission Istaanbul'.
Lakhia is currently shooting 'Zanjeer' a remake of a 1973 movie with the same name which starred Amitabh Bachchan. This time, in the remake Lakhia has signed Ram Charan Teja as the lead to fit into Big B's shoes. The film also stars Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt. The film is set to release on May 10, 2013.
