Asif Basra Biography

Asif Basra is an Indian actor born hailing from the small village of Amravati in Maharashtra. Though he is an excellent actor now, he did not take any particular training for it nor did he belong to any filmy family. Still what made him to turn an actor was his keen interest towards the theatre. He used to actively participate in school and college festivals. He completed his graduation in B.Sc. Physics from Mumbai University and did basic computer course. But like a typical middle-class man, he chose to do a desk job to earn his living while acting remained his hidden hobby.

No matter how far he tried to keep himself, still Asif was drawn towards theatre. He used to spend his monthly watching plays and at times he went for five to six times for one production by Salim house. Impressed by this ardent fan, Ghouse invited him to join theatre. His first play was 'HAMLET' and next one was 'MERCHANT OF VENICE'. Moving beyond English drama, he went on to perform in Hindi and Urdu plays. He holds special credit for playing five different character roles in Feroz Shah's acclaimed theatre act 'Mahatma V/S Gandhi'.

In the year 1996, Asif's flourishing career in Indian theatre made him quit his 9 to 5 job as he was never meant for it. His next step was in Television and finally he made his way to the film industry. He marked his big screen debut with an English film 'Quicksand' in 2002. His first Bollywood film was Anurag Kashyap's 'Black Friday', followed by Rahul Dholakia's 'Parzania', both of these films were critically acclaimed and brought him vast recognition. His realistic acting skills earned him a pivotal role in awarding wining film 'Outsourced'.

Asif's common man personality is working as his 'X' factor garnering him the noteworthy projects. Besides acting, he continues to mould the young talents by organizing acting workshops at Prithvi Theatre each year during the summer vacation.
