Former actor and now a director Atul Agnihotri is a known face in the Hindi film industry. He came to limelight when he appeared in the movie 'Sir'. Atul was born on 24th June 1970 in Mumbai. Famous actress Rati Agnihotri is his cousin sister. He is married to Alvira Khan Agnihotri, the younger daughter of scriptwriter Salim Khan. Alvira is a younger sister of Salman Khan and Sohail Khan which makes Atul as Salman and Sohail's brother in law. Alvira and Atul have two children named Ayaan and Alizeh.
Atul Agnihotri appeared as a child actor in 1983 film 'Pasand Apni Apni' and 'Champak Lal Ki Shaadi'. Later he started his full fledged film career as an adult with Mahesh Bhatt's film 'Sir' in 1993. Later he was seen in the films like 'Naaraaz' ,'Gunehgar' ,'Veergati' ,'Yeshwant' ,'Bambai Ka Babu' ,'Jeevan Yudh' , 'Chachi 420' ,'Khote Sikkey' ,'Yeh Aashiquie Meri' ,'Hote Hote Pyar Ho Gaya' ,'Jaani Dushman' and 'Sanam Teri Kasam'. All these films could not do much at the box office. Atul's noteworthy films are 'Aatish: Feel the Fire' ,'Krantiveer' and 'Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam'.
Disappointed with his acting career, Atul made his directorial debut with the film 'Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha' in 2004. The films starred Salman Khan, Bhumika Chawla and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. Atul directed as well as wrote the story for this film. His second directorial venture was 'Hello' the film was starring Sharman Joshi , Sohail Khan and Salman Khan. The film was based on Chetan Bhagat's novel 'One Night @ Call Center'. The film was released in 2008. Atul produced this movie as well.
The actor turned director produced Salman Khan starrer blockbuster 'Bodyguard' in 2011.
