Boman Irani Biography

Boman Irani was born on November 2, 1959 to early-residents of Mumbai in "Irani" Parsi family, which owned ancestral bakery. He graduated from Mithibai College, Mumbai. After completing his diploma in Polytechnic, he worked in Taj Mahal Palace and Tower as a room-service staff. At the same time, enduring his family business, he established potato chip's, 'Uncle Chip's' franchise at Dadar.

In 1987, he switched to photography. He is a professional photographer. He had shot famous television star, Sanaya Irani's portfolio. In school and college days, Boman was quite keen of acting. Later, he explored his passion by setting up a career in acting. For which, he got formally trained under Hansraj Sindhia and Chandan Singh and got expertise by acting in British theaters. He debuted in theater by playing a cameo in the play, 'Roshni'. Later, he was seen in around 40 plays, being the lead in fifteen of them.

Boman was also seen in advertisement for the brands like, Fanta, Ceat and Krack Jack biscuits (as Mr. Jack, out of Krack-Jack duo). His career in Bollywood started with the debut in 'Everybody Says I'm Fine!'. After that he featured in couple of cinemas; until his performance in 2003 flick, 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S' as Dr. J. C. Asthana, with which he gained immense recognition.

Irani is a versatile actor, who essays each role with utmost sincerity and perfection. His work in comedy films, include, 'Main Hoon Na', 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', 'Dostana'(2008), 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', 'Waqt', 'No Entry', '3 Idiots', 'Housefull', 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu', 'Housefull 2', 'Cocktail', 'Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi', 'Jolly L.L.B.' and 'Joker'(2008) and negative roles in 'Don - The Chase Begins Again', 'Don 2' and 'Eklavya'.

Also, he had featured as supporting actor in the film, 'Veer-Zaara', 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara', 'Lakshya', 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd', 'Sorry Bhai', 'Page 3' and 'My Wife s Murder'. Boman has won number of prestigious awards for his work in cinema world. His most popular role being, the dean Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe, famously known as Virus, in the outstanding comedy-flick '3 Idiots'. Also, he has hosted IIFA Awards with actor Riteish Deshmukh for the four consecutive years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Boman Irani is married to Zenobia and has two sons, Danesh and Kayoze Irani. He is the secretary of Parsee Television Actors Community.
