Chetan Bhagat Biography

Chetan Bhagat is the eminent novelist known throughout the world. He was born on April 22, 1974 in New Delhi, India in a middle-class Punjabi army family. He was a bright student and has studied Mechanical Engineering from the reputed institutions of India like IIT-Delhi and later management from IIM- Ahmedabad. He worked in Deutsche bank, Hong Kong as an investment banker for eleven years and then returned India quitting his job to pursue his dream of writing.

He attained fame right with his first novel, 'Five Point Someone', which was later adapted into the film '3 Idiots' in Hindi and 'Nanban' in Tamil. Also his other novels provided storyline to many of other films, like Atul Agnihotri's film 'Hello' was adapted from the novel 'One Night @ The Call Center', Abhishek Kapoor's 'Kai Po Che' from novel 'The 3 Mistakes Of My Life' and the upcoming movie '2 States' featuring Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt from the novel '2 States: The Story of My Marriage'.

Chetan is reviewed badly by most of the critics, but his novels being mass appealing has gained immense popularity. Also, he writes on political issues in the columns of newspapers, such as Times Of India, Hindustan Times and Dainik Bhaskar. He has also judged the TV show, 'Star Anchor Hunt' on Star News.

His popular speeches - "SPARK" delivered at Pune and "Becoming One With the World" speech given at the HT Leadership Summit Delhi, has even got mass publication. Bhagat has bagged number of popular awards, like Society Young Achiever's award in 2004, Publisher's Recognition award in 2005 and Bhagat was listed in 'Time' magazine's list of World's 100 Most Influential People 2010. He has earned the title of "The biggest selling English language novelist in India's history" from The New York Times.

Chetan Bhagat is married to Anusha Bhagat, whom he met while studying at IIM and the couple has got two sons, Ishaan and Shyam.
