Dalip Tahil is a well known character actor and supporting actor. Dalip Tahil is one of the skilled and talented supporting actors of Bollywood. He appears in films, theatre plays and on television as well.
Tahil was born on 30th October 1952 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. He studied at the prestigious Sherwood College in Nainital. He did his graduation from Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh. Dalip started to appear on stage at a very young age of 10 years. He was still studying at Sherwood College then. He participated in school choir , the nativity plays, elocution competitions, informal and formal concerts etc. It gave him the platform to be cast in principal parts. It won him the impressive 'Kendall Cup'.
Dalip Tahil made his debut in acting by playing a small role in the film 'Ankur' in 1974. His first big role was in 'Shaan' by Ramesh Sippy in 1980. Over the years, he has appeared in more than 100 Hindi films during 80s and 90s decade. He essayed versatile roles like villain, father, relative, henchman, and police officer etc. Dalip Tahil appeared along with Shah Rukh Khan in many films like 'Deewana' ,'Darr' , 'Baazigar' and 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' etc.
Tahil was also seen in an international award winning film of 1982 'Gandhi'. He was also featured in Merchant Ivory English Language films , 'The Decievers' and 'The Perfect Murder' . Both were released in 1988. Some of the notable films in which Tahil was appeared are 'Ram Lakhan' ,'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' ,'Tridev' ,'Thanedar' ,'Kishan Kanhaiya' ,'Baazigar' ,'Deewana' ,'Ishq' , 'Darr' ,'King Uncle' , 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' , 'Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke', 'Ra.One' ,'Race' ,'Rock On' ,'Hello' ,'Dil Bole Hadippa!' ,'Loot' and 'London, Paris, New York' etc.
He acted as baby Sonia's father in India's first 3D film 'My Dear Kuttichathan', a Malayalam film. He is also a part of many theatre groups and appears in many theatre plays. He was also seen in a 2007 Punjabi movie 'Sajna Ve Sajna'.
Dalip has also appeared on television in Sanjay Khan's TV serial 'The Sword Of Tipu Sultan'. He also featured in 'Buniyaad' by Ramesh Sippy. He was also starred in an international TV series of BBC 'Eastenders' . Dalip was seen in a BBC2 mini series 'Nuclear Secrets' .
Dalip will be seen as 'Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru' in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' , a biopic on flying Sikh Milkha Singh's life. Dalip has launched his own music album called as 'Raaz ki Baatein'.
The multifaceted actor still continues his journey in Bollywood with the same zest and skill.
