Deepak Dobriyal Biography

Deepak Dobriyal may be scrawny and nondescript among the flashy stars of Bollywood but he's in his element as an actor. Whether in plays or films, he commands a second look.

Deepak Dobriyal was born on 1st September 1975 in Kabra village, close to Reethakhal and Satpuli Village, Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand. His parents shifted to Delhi when he was five. He studied in Delhi. He is married to Lara Bhalla.

In 1994, he started working in theater directed by the likes of Arvind Gaur, Girish Karnad, Pandit N.K.Sharma and Mahesh Dattani. His plays include Karnad's 'Tughlaq', Dattani's 'Final Solutions' and 'Aao Saathi Sapna Dekhen'. Other plays of which he was a part of are 'Andha Yug, 'Final Solutions', 'Desire under the Elms','Rakht kalyan', 'Court martial', Dario Fo's Operation Three Star, The Causcasian Chalk Circle, The Good person Of Szechwan, Neil Simon's The Good Doctor, and Ashok lal's Mamooli Aadmi.

After acting in a good number of plays he got small but crucial parts in many critical hits like 'Omkara' and 'Maqbool'. He won a Filmfare special performance award for 'Omkara'. He acted in the movie '1971' released in 2007, he was seen in a children's film 'Blue Umbrella' (2005). He was part of Midnight Lost & Found (2007) which won the Jury Award for Best Short Film at the Los Angeles Indian Film Festival. He played a chemist shop owner who reads Batman comics. He acted in 'Shaurya' (2008) as Captain Javed Khan and in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Delhi 6' (2009), as Mamdu who owns a jalebi shop. He went on acting in movies like '13B', 'Gulaal', 'Tanu Weds Manu', '3 Thay Bhai', etc.

He was last seen in 'Dabangg 2'. He will next be seen in Anand L Rai directed 'Raanjhnaa' alongside Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol.
