Dibakar Banerjee Biography

Dibakar Banerjee is a director and screenwriter of the Hindi film industry. He is mostly recognized for his comic flick 'Khosla Ka Ghosla '. He was born on 21st June 1969 in New Delhi. He was brought up in Delhi. He went to Bal Bharati Public School in Delhi. After completing school education, he went to the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. He studied visual communication and graphic design there.

But he left the course after two and half years and came back to Delhi. He worked with audio visual filmmaker Sam Mathews. First he worked as a copywriter with an advertising firm. He worked with Pradeep Sarkar there. Famous screenwriter Jaideep Sahni was his colleague there. In the year 1997, he left his job and started his own advertising firm with his friends named as 'Watermark'. His company made promos and advertisements for Chanel V, MTV and many major brands.

Later in 2006, Dibakar and his friend Sinha thought about making 'Khosla Ka Ghosla ' starring Boman Irani and Anupam Kher . The film got a great success and also won the prestigious National Film Award.

In the year 2008 ,he directed and wrote 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! ' starring Paresh Rawal and Abhay Deol . The film received good reviews from one and all. The film was a winner of three Filmfare awards. In 2010, he directed 'Love, Sex Aur Dhoka ' which was shot on only digital camera for the first time. The film was screened at various film festivals and won critical accolades on domestic as well as international level. The film was broadly based upon 2004 DPS MMS scandal. In the year 2012, the talented director made 'Shanghai ' a political thriller which was critically acclaimed. The film had Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi . The film was a hit and was received well.

Dibakar is married to Richa Puranesh working in FMCG sector the couple has a young daughter.
