Charming for Female fans and rustic and raw for male fans, dazzling dude Emraan Hashmi is a widely known Indian actor popular for essaying bold and notorious roles mostly in the suspense-thriller genre movies.
Emraan Hashmi, born on 24 March, 1979 to Anwar and Meherahh Hashmi is the cousin of director Mohit Suri, actress Smily Suri, Pooja Bhatt, Alia Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt. He is also the nephew of Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt and has always remained a favorite choice and a prominent part of the Bhatt Camp when it comes to casting. Hashmi is married to his long time girlfriend Parveen Sahani and has a son named Ayaan.
Gaining a degree from Sydenham college, Mumbai, Hashmi started his career in Bollywood at the age of 23 as an assistant director to Vikram Bhatt for his 2002 movie 'Raaz'. Then he went on to make his acting debut with the film 'Footpath' directed by Vikram Bhatt. It gained him a good review from film pundits for playing a gangster who falls in love with an ordinary girl. In 2004, he bagged a role in Anurag Basu's murder mystery 'Murder' with Mallika Sherawat and Ashmit Patel which actually brought him into the limelight. It was well received both by viewers and critics equally. Mostly whatever movie he did, irrespective of it being a hit or flop his personal performances were well appreciated by critics. Movies such as 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha- A Love Story', 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' and 'Chocolate' failed at the Box Office. He then got a lot of appreciation for his supporting role in 'Kalyug' directed by Mohit Suri which again was moderately successful. He also received first film fare nomination of his career in the 'Best actor in a negative role' category for Romantic Thriller of Anurag Basu's 'Gangster' where he essayed the role of an undercover detective, the villain of the movie. Then in 2008 'Jannat 2' and in 2009 'Raaz 2' went houseful and grossed a good amount at the box office.
Since 2010 the actor has seen the best patch of his career delivering back to back hits. In Milan Luthria's movie 'Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai' based on the real life story of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim where he played the character of 'Shoaib Khan'. It is considered Emraan's best performance till date. The next blockbuster was 'The Dirty Picture' with Vidya Balan. 2011's 'Murder 2' and 2012's 'Jannat 2' gained commercial success. Dibakar Banerjee's 'Shanghai' a low budget movie garnered lots of critical acclamation. It also got Emraan nominated for the best actor category in Filmfare awards.
Though, his career graph is a bit fluctuating, luckily one thing which has remained consistent in his career and that is, 'the music' of his movies. It has always been a hit with youngsters as they relate to the soundtracks. Mostly, Music Director Himesh Reshammiya and Pritam Chakraborty who give their masterworks in his movies. Also, through his movies he made 'kissing Scenes' very normal and common in the Indian Film Industry. Thus, he is also known as 'The Serial Kisser' of the industry.
His future projects include Vishal Bharadwaj's horror flick 'Ek Thi Daayan', Karan Johar's 'Ungli' and Rajkumar Gupta's 'Ghanchakkar'.
