Farah Khan Biography

Farah Khan is a famous choreographer, actress and film director. She is best known as a choreographer who makes the stars dance on her instructions. Over the years of her career, she has choreographed more than hundreds of songs in more than 80 films. She has become a film director as well. Farah has worked on some international projects like 'Monsoon Wedding' , 'Marigold' and a Chinese film named as 'Perhaps Love'.

Farah was born on 9th January 1965. Her father Kamran Khan was a stunt film maker. Her mother Menaka is a sister of Honey Irani, the famous screenwriter. Her grandmother is Daisy Irani. Famous actor, director, comedian Sajid Khan is Farah's brother. Ace directors Farhaan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar are Farah's cousins. Farah is married to editor Shirish Kunder who edited Farah's debut directorial venture 'Main Hoon Na'. The couple has triplets , one son named as Czar and two daughters named Diva and Anya. The duo has worked together in the films like 'Jaan-E-Mann' ,'Tees Maar Khan' and 'Om Shanti Om'.

Farah has studied Sociology from St. Xavier's School. When she was studying, Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' was telecast and she got inspired by that. She hadn't d danced before that but it soon became her passion. She learnt dance on her own and soon set up her own dance group. Farah got her first break in Mansoor Khan's 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar' as Saroj Khan walked out of the film. This followed by many songs which became the national hits. Eventually she met Shah Rukh Khan and since then the duo became very good friends and started working together.

Farah's dance choreography in 'Bombay Dreams' ,'Monsoon Wedding' and 'Vanity Fair' got nominations at the Tony Awards 2004 as best choreographer. Farah is a winner of the Filmfare award for the best choreography for five times. She has won lots of nominations and awards since then. Farah's first directorial venture is Shah Rukh Khan starer 'Main Hoon Na' produced by Red Chillies Entertainment. The film was a hit and Farah got the nomination for the Best Director at the Filmfare Awards. Her second directorial was again Shah Rukh Khan starer 'Om Shanti Om' which became the highest grossing Hindi film. She next directed Akshay Kumar starer 'Tees Maar Khan'.

Farah made her acting debut in 2012 film 'Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi' with Boman Irani. Farah has choreographed some international stars like Shakira for 'Hips Don't lie' for MTV Video Music Awards and Kylie Minogue for the song 'Chiggy Wiggy' in the 2009 film 'Blue'. Her steps from the film 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai' and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' are taken by the American Idol contestant Kashif Memon as the Bollywood Dance.

Farah has hosted the celebrity chat show Tere Mere Beach Mein. She was one of the judges in the reality shows like Indian Idol , Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar , Dance India Dance Lil' Masters and Just Dance. Farah and her husband have started a production company named 'Three's Company' named in the honor of their triplets.
