Kajol Devgan is an Award-winning actress of Indian Cinema. The Happy-go-lucky actress is a recipient of the Padma Shri award, the fourth highest civilian of the country. Kajol is a part of the very affluent filmy families of the Mukherjees and the Samarths. Kajol was born to Shomu and Tanuja.Shomu Mukherjee was a film Director and Producer. Her paternal Uncles are Actor Joy Mukherjee, one of the best romantic heroes of his times and Deb Mukherjee, a producer. Kajol's paternal grandfather is the famous film maker Mr. Shashadhar Mukherjee. Kajol's Mother Tanuja and aunt Nutan were successful Bollywood actresses. Her grandmother is actress Shobhna Samarth and great grandmother is Rattan Bai. Actress Tanisha Mukherjee is her younger sister. Actress Rani Mukherjee, Actor Mohnish Behl and Sharbani Mukherjee are her cousins. She is married to Ajay Devgn. They have two kids- Nysa a girl and Yug a boy

Kajol's Parents got divorced when she was too young. She was raised and looked after by her maternal grandmother. She was self- dependent since her childhood. She studied at St. Joseph Convent boarding School in Panchgani where she was recruited as the Head Girl. At the age of sixteen, while she was still studying, she got an offer from Rahul Rawail for the movie 'Bekhudi'. She planned to return to school after the shoot which she did in her summer vacations but then eventually dropped out and took on a full-fledged Bollywood Career. Though her first movie flopped, she got some notice and was signed by Abbas-Mustan for the movie 'Baazigar' of the year 1993, her first movie with Shah Rukh Khan. The movie was a commercial hit. Her next commercial success came with 'Yeh Dillagi' a Yash Raj Film alongside Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan.

In the Year 1995, Kajol had Two successful Movies in Rakesh Roshan's 'Karan Arjun' and Yash Raj Films' 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge', both alongside Shah Rukh Khan. The Later proved to be one of the most successful movies of all time. It had done a worldwide business and won 10 Filmfare awards. She earned her first Filmfare award for the best actress. Also it marked the great pair of Kajol and SRK making them one of the best on-screen pairs of the Indian Film Industry. In the Year 1997, She featured in 'Gupt' where she essayed a Negative Character and won accolades from critics. Kajol became the first actress to be nominated and also win a Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role. Kajol also acted in the Tamil hit movie 'Minsaara Kanavu'. She appeared in Indra Kumar's rom-com 'Ishq'. It was the first commercial success with husband Ajay Devgn as they had previously acted in two flop movies together in 'Hulchul' and 'Gundaraj '. In 1998, Kajol appeared in Sohail Khan's 'Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya' opposite Salman Khan. The movie was commercial Hit. Then she appeared in 'Dushman' essaying double roles of sisters, two altogether different characters for which she won Screen Award for Best Actress. Her third movie of that year was 'Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha' alongside hubby Ajay Devgn which was again a successful movie and got her a nomination at the Filmfare award for best actress. But Karan Johar's 'Kuch Kuch Hota hai' did the real miracle to her. Her Character in the movie proved her mettle in acting. She played a Tomboy who changes into becoming a mature woman after a heartbreak. She won the Filmfare best actress award for such a mesmerizing performance. Her 1999 movie 'Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte hain' was a critical acclaimed one. The film was based on the idea of a contract marriage. After it she had a low phase in movies. In 2001, Karan Johar's Family Drama brought her back with a role of a Lively Punjabi girl in the movie 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' which proved to be a Blockbuster. She won her third Filmfare award for the role. She also suffered a miss-carriage in the same year. Then she went on a break to give time to her family. In 2003, she delivered a baby-girl and named her Nysa.

In 2006, she made a comeback with 'Fanaa' and won her fourth Fimlfare award for the best actress category. Then she appeared in 'U Me Aur Hum' (2008) alongside husband Ajay Devgn. Her 2011 movie 'My name is Khan' won her, her 5th Filmfare award for best actress equaling her aunt Nutan's achievement to have won the most Filmfare award for the best actress ever. She last appeared in 'Toonpur Ka Superhero'
