Kunal Kohli is a prominent director of Bollywood. He is a writer- director and producer all in one. Kunal is married to Reena Kohli who directed the chat show Koffee with Karan and headed Yash Raj TV. They adopted a baby girl in 2011.
He began his career as a film critic in the late 1990s and hosted a show Chalo Cinama on Zee TV. He then directed about 24 music videos like Bally Sagoo's 'Mera Laung Gawacha', Kamaal Khan's 'Jaana', Bali Brahmabhatt's 'Tere Bin Jeena Nashin' Shiamak Davar's 'Jaane Kisne', Hema Sardesai's 'Bole Humse Kuch Na Gori' and Rajshri Music's 'Yeh Hai Prem', a song for Alisha Chinoy with Milind Soman.
He debuted in Television with TV series Trikon. His first movie was 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge' which could not do much, to his despair. Later he made 'Hum Tum' in 2004 which proved a blockbuster and brought him in the limelight. 'Hum Tum' won five Filmfare awards among which one was for Best Director won by Kohli leaving back his mentor Yash Chopra who was competing in the same category for 'Veer-Zaara'.
He next directed 'Fanaa', starred Aamir Khan and Kajol. It was the highest grosser of 2006. Kohli also co-produced his next directorial 'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic', starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee , Rishi Kapoor and Amisha Patel. It did not fare well.
Kohli also hosted popular Dance Reality TV show Nach Baliye's second season for Star Plus. He has judged a children's reality show on Sony TV called Chota Packet Bad Dhamake.
He established his production house in 2007 to produce his own movies and give a chance to new directors. He produced 'Break Ke Baad' which flopped.
Kunal has signed a three film contract with Reliance Big Pictures for financing, distribution and marketing. This contract is estimated to be worth Rs 150 crores.
Kunal will direct an untitled film starring Ayushman Khurana.
