Madhuri Dixit Biography

Madhuri Dixit is an Indian film actress. Born on 15th May, 1967 at Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. She was born as Madhuri Shankar Dixit to Shankar and Snehlata Dixit, of a Marathi Hindu family. Dixit attended Divine Child High School and Mumbai University and studied microbiology. She is a trained Kathak dancer. She is married to Dr. Shriram Madhav Nene and they have two sons, Arin and Raayan.

Dixit made her film debut in 'Abodh' (1984). After series of consecutive flops which included 'Awara Baap', 'Swati', 'Mohre', 'Hifazat' and 'Uttar Dakshin'; she attained stardom with the lead female role of Mohini in N Chandra's blockbuster 'Tezaab' (1988) opposite Anil Kapoor. The film went on to become that year's highest grossing movie. It was Dixit's first hit at the box office. She ruled everyone's heart with her flawless dancing skills in the song 'Ek Do Teen'. Dixit received her first nomination for the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her work in 'Tezaab'. She went on to establish herself as one of Bollywood's leading actresses, appreciated for several of her performances, her beauty, and her flawless dancing skills.

There after Madhuri went on giving hit after hit with the following movies, 'Ram Lakhan', 'Prem Pratigyaa', 'Tridev', 'Parinda', 'Dil' (1990), 'Saajan', 'Beta', 'Khalnayak', 'Anjaam', 'Hum Aapke Hai Kaun'. From the year 2000, she went on doing films like 'Pukar' (2000), 'Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke', although they didn't earned her much of success as compared to her earlier hits. In 2001, she acted in RajKumar Santoshi's 'Lajja' the movie failed at box-office but her performance gained her huge appreciation. In 2002, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Devdas' was released where she played mujra dancer Chandramukhi's role. Her dancing skills and acting abilities had created a benchmark for her. She made her television debut as a host with India's first reality show 'Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai' on Sony TV.

Post marriage, she took a long break and returned in the year 2006, with the film, 'Aaja Nachle'.

Currently, Madhuri is working on social-activist film, 'Gulaab Gang' and 'Dedh Ishqiya', sequel to acclaimed film 'Ishqiya'. Also judging a celebrity dance show 'Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 5' with co-judges Remo D'Souza and Karan Johar.
