Padma began her career with Bhojpuri movies like Ganga Maiya Tohe Pihyari Chadaibo. After this movie she made her entry in Bollywood with movies like Saawan Ki Ghata (1966) and Mehrban (1967). Ashok Kumar, Nutan, and Sunil Dutt starred in the latter. This movie was a success.
The actress received praise for her performance in Baharon Ke Sapne (1967) alongside Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh. Padma was beside seen in Heer Ranjha (1970) by Chetan Anand. In the Dev Anand and Hema Malini starrer Johnny Mera Naam (1970), she played a cabaret dancer which brought her a lot of fame. In Pyar Diwana (1972), the actress was reckoned opposite Kishore Kumar.
Padma has given several hits like Raampur Ka Lakshman (1972), Daag: A Poem Of Love (1973), Loafer (1973), and Anhonee (1973). Movies like Anokhi Ada (1973), Joshila (1973), and Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar (1973) were big flops. Her last appearance was in Megha (1996) starring Rahul Roy and Karishma Kapoor.
Later she played the role of Kaikeyi in Ramanand Sagars Ramayan.
