Forgotten actor Rahul Roy who gained an instant popularity with his debut film 'Aashiqui' could not create much impact in the industry after his hit debut film. The actor went unnoticed in a series of films followed after 'Aashiqui'. Rahul Roy with his unconventional good looks and an unusual hair cut kicked up a storm with his debut but then, he vanished from the film industry after his career took a nosedive.
Rahul Roy was born on 9th February 1968 in New Delhi. His parents are Indira and Deepak Roy. Rahul did his schooling from the Lawrence School at Sanawar. His maternal uncle Cory Walia is a big name in the Bollywood as well as in the showbiz. Rahul dated some gorgeous women like Pooja Bhatt, Manisha Koirala, and Kamal Sidhu. But eventually he got married to Rajlaxmi K. Roy who is a fashion model. Rahul Roy has a twin brother named Rohit , who is 26 minutes elder to him.
Rahul Roy met overnight success when he landed the lead role in Mahesh Bhatt's musical romantic flick 'Aashiqui' opposite another debutante, Anu Agarwal. The film made Rahul Roy an icon amongst the youth of that time. After the success of his debut film 'Aashiqui', offers started flooding towards Rahul. He signed about 40 films at that time.
Rahul was next seen romancing Karisma Kapoor in 'Sapne Saajan Ke' by Sudhakar Bokade in 1992. The movie managed to generate a decent box office revenue. His strong performance was appreciated in Mahesh Bhatt's autobiographical film 'Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee' with Pooja Bhatt.
He received many offers and had a successful run with the release of films like 'Jaanam' and 'Junoon'. The film 'Junoon' saw the actor morphing into a ferocious tiger. After this, many of the films in which Rahul played a key role were never completed and the ones which were released didn't do well at the box office. Some of the films in which Rahul appeared are 'Megha', 'Achanak', 'Tune Mera Dil Le Liyaa' and 'Naughty Boy'. The actor even tried his hand at directing with the film 'Mera Juta Hai Japani' but the film was put on ice when its producer passed away.
Rahul took a long break from films when his career took a nosedive. He made his comeback with the film 'Meri Aashiqui' in which he played a lead role in 2005. The film went totally unnoticed. Some of the recent films in which Rahul Roy was featured are 'Rafta Rafta' ,'Charminar Boys' , 'Vidyarthi' and 'Ada'.
Rahul took part and won the reality show 'Bigg Boss' an Indian version of 'Celebrity Big Brother' in 2007. Recently he has ventured into movie production. He has established a production house named as Rahul Roy Productions.
