Six feet tall and handsome Rajat Kapoor is an actor, writer and director in Bollywood. He was born on 11th February 1961 in Delhi. He had a deep interest in films since his childhood. So he decided to become a filmmaker when he was just 14 years old. He was focused on acting first. But then he liked the film direction as well. In the year 1983, he joined 'Chingari' a theatre group in Delhi. Then he shifted to Pune and attended the Film and Television Institute of India.
During his initial days, Rajat had to do lots of struggle to find the job. Hence he began writing and directing the short films. He made his directorial debut in the full length with the suspense detective story 'Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One' with Irrfan Khan and Naseeruddin Shah. He was first noticed for his supporting role in the film 'Dil Chahta Hai' as Preity Zinta's uncle. He was again got attention in Mira Nair's film 'Monsoon Wedding'. After that he had appeared in many hit films. He has written and directed many movies. Some of his noted movies are 'Bheja Fry', 'Corporate', 'Raghu Romeo' etc. He made and acted opposite Konkona Sen Sharma in 'Mixed Doubles' . His directorial Raghu Romeo got the National Film Award for the Best feature Film. He was awarded for his performance in the film 'Siddharth'. Rajat has worked for many times with Ranvir Shorey and Vinay Pathak. He has also appeared in one Bengali movie named as 'Iti Mrinalini' with Konkona Sen Sharma. The movie was directed by Aparna Sen. Rajat has been awarded the national award for three times. First for his documentary Tarana, second for his short film Hypothesis and Third for his feature film Raghu Romeo. The talented actor also hosts a chat show 'Lounge' aired on NDTV Good Times.
Recently his film 'Phas Gaye Re Obama' on recession was well appreciated. Rajat's performance in this film was outstanding.
