Rajit Kapoor may pass off as a regular guy that is until you reckon him tranform into the roles he plays effortlessly. And then you know you are looking at the man who played the Mahatma and succeeded a well deserved National Film Award.

The Making of Rajit Kapoor
Rajit Kapoor is a commerce graduate who was grabbed spouting Shakespearean sonnets in Yugantar by Shyam Benegal. He was offered the part of Manek Mullah in Benegals Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (1993).

In Basu Chatterjees Byomekesh Bakshi (1993), he played a detective. The actor who picks out substance over glamour was part of Benegals trilogy as Riyaz in Mammo (1994) and Zubeidaa (2001) and as Sadiq in Sardari Begum (1996).

He was again the chosen one when Benegal determined to make the movie The Making of Mahatma (1996). He played the part of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who during his days as a barrister, travels to Britain to manage a case and is at the receiving end of racial discrimination. His performance succeeded him the National Film Award for Best Actor.

Kapoor, who is a garment exporter when he is not facing the camera , lent his presence to critically acclaimed films like Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara (2005) and Welcome to Sajjanpur (2008).
