Rakesh Roshan is the ace bollywood filmmaker and actor who have vastly contributed to Indian Cinema. Rakesh Roshan Lal Nagrath was born on 6th September 1949 in Mumbai, Maharashtra to Roshan Lal Nagrath popularly known as Music Director Roshan. Rakesh's younger brother Rajesh is also a music director. They belong to a Punjabi kayastha family. Rakesh is married to Pinky, the daughter of director Om Prakash. Superstar Hrithik Roshan is his son.

Roshan began his career as an actor making his debut in the 1970 film 'Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani'. 'Paraya Dhan' along with Hema Malini was his first movie as a main character. He acted in over 60 films from early 70's to late 80's. His most notable movies as an actor were 'Aankhon Aankhon Mein', 'Zakhmee', 'Khel Khel Mein', 'Khatta Meetha', 'Jhootha Kahin ka', 'Khubsoorat', 'Aap ke Deewane', 'Hamari Bahu Alka', 'Kaamchor' and 'Bhagwan Dada'. He mostly featured in multi-starrer films with Rishi Kapoor.

Roshan established his own production house Filmkraft in 1980 and produced 'Aap Ke Deewane' (1980) for the first time. In 1987, He directed his first movie 'Khudgarz'. Thereafter he directed several prominent movies like 'Khoon Bhari Maang' (1988), 'Kishan Kanhaiya' (1990), 'King Uncle' (1993), 'Karan Arjun' (1995), 'Koyla' (1997). He launched son Hrithik in The movie 'Kaho Naa... Pyaar hai' (2000). This film entered the Limca book of world records for the most number of Awards won by a Bollywood film. He received a Filmfare Award for best Director for directing 'Koi... Mil Gaya'. He also made its sequel 'Krrish' in 2006 which was a blockbuster again. He also produced 'Kites' in 2010. He will next be directing son Hrithik in 'Krrish 3' which is slot to release on Nov 1, 2013.
