Reema Lagoo was an actress, who featured in Marathi and Hindi movies. She was popular for her role of a middle-aged mother, in various Hindi movies.
Born as Nayan Bhadbhade in the year 1958, Reema forayed into acting being the theater actress. She was the daughter of "Lekure Udanda Jaahali" fame actress Mandakini Bhadbhade. For around four decades, she earned name and fame through Marathi stage with her immense acting ability. She studied in the well-known Huzurpaga HHCP High School in Pune and this was where her acting talent was noticed.
The versatile Reema Lagoo appeared in a number of Marathi films. Some of them include 'Aapli Manse', 'Sinhasan', 'Shyamchi Aai', 'Bindhast', 'Sail', 'Aai Shappath', 'Shubhmangal Savadhaan', 'Jiwalagaa', 'God Gupit', 'Anumati', 'Maan Sanmaan', 'Navra Maza Navsacha' and to list a few. Apart from this, she ruled the Marathi stage with some notable plays like 'Aasu Ani Hasu', 'Godigulabi', 'Savita Damodar Paranjape', 'Sasu Majhi Dhaansu' and many others. Talking about her appearance in Hindi films, a pool of movies are to the credit of this eminent actress. She mostly appeared in supporting roles in Hindi films and she garnered much praise as a loving mother to the actor or actress. She has worked with several eminent personalities from Marathi as well as Hindi film industry.
Starting from her early films, Reema featured in the super hit film 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' as Juhi Chawla's mother. Reema had played the role of superstar Salman Khan's mother in the films like 'Saajan', 'Maine Pyar Kiya', 'Judwaa', 'Hum Aapke Hai Kaun' and 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'. All these films were a huge box office hit of that time and until today; they are fresh in the audience's memory. In the crime-thriller 'Gumrah', Reema featured as Sridevi's mother. Apart from Salman Khan, Reema also essayed mother's role of Shah Rukh Khan in the movies like 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' and 'Kal Ho Naa Ho'. For a change from playing a motherly figure, Reema wonderfully portrayed a cold businesswoman in the film 'Yeh Dillagi' in the year 1994 and a dancer in 'Aakrosh' in 1980. Not to forget her role as Sanjay Dutt's mother in the blockbuster 'Vaastav' in the year 1999. The other films that witnessed Reema's sheer acting talent are 'Aashiqui', 'Shola Aur Shabnam', 'Rangeela', 'Yes Boss', 'Jhoot Bole Kauwa Kate', 'Kya Kehna!', 'Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye', 'Indian', 'Mittal vs Mittal', 'Mumbai Cutting', 'Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha', 'Sandwich', 'Kidnap', 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon' and the list goes on. The iconic actress bagged nominations for the category of Best Supporting Actress from Filmfare Awards for her performance in the films, 'Hum Aapke Hai Kaun', 'Maine Pyar Kiya', 'Vaastav' and 'Aashiqui'.
Reema Lagoo appeared as a guest on Marathi talk shows like 'Maanacha Mujra' and 'Khupte Tithe Gupte'. The story does not end here! The actress also illustrated her talent on a small screen with the television serials like 'Shrimaan Shrimati', 'Tu Tu Main Main', 'Khandaan', 'Kadvee, Khatti, Meethi', 'Do Hanson Ka Joda' and 'Tuza Maza Jamena'.
Reema tied the knot with Marathi actor Vivek Lagoo. Later, she got divorced citing to personal differences. They have a daughter together named Mrunmayee Lagoo, who is also an actress by profession.
Reema Lagoo died on 18th May 2017 from cardiac arrest. Just a few hours before her death, she was admitted to Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital.
