Rekha Biography

The all time beauty, Rekha was born on 10th of October 1954 in the Ganesan family in Chennai (then Madras) to the famous film fraternity parents, Gemini Ganeshan and Pushpavalli who originally named her as Bhanurekha. Apart from Rekha, the duo raised up five daughter and a son along with her.

As her parents came up from the tinsel town framing, the daughter too was destined to foot her steps in the glamor world. And so did happen when the beauty essayed a role of a child artist along with her mom in the 1966 release Telugu film 'Rangula Ratnam'. Before relocating her base to Bombay (Now Mumbai), Bhanurekha aced in several other regional flicks like 'Amma Kosam' (Telugu) and 'Goa Dalli CID 999' (Kannada) respectively.

As soon as she stepped her first in Mumbai, the home town of Bollywood she received her debut in 1970 release 'Sawan Bhadon' opposite Navin Nischol with a screen name "Rekha". Starting off with a dusky complexion, healthy physique and not so proper hold on Hindi ascent did nothing much but proved risky for the survival of the starlet. Knowing her cons at the initial stage itself with films like 'Raampur Ka Lakshman', 'Dharma' etc., the star kid went ahead and shad off those extra pounds, took classical dance lessons and grasped the language. Maintaining her foot strong by boning her weaknesses well, she soon bounced back into the industry with her screen name Rekha. Possessing the name in several of her flicks she better chose to apply the same in real life as well.

Post the makeover, her stars too seemed to have done so as she climbed the success ladder high with an eye opening speed. Her later contributes listed of films like 'Do Anjane', 'Alaap', 'Ghar', 'Mr. Natwarlal', 'Jaani Dushman' (1979), 'Judaai' (1980), 'Kali Ghata', 'Silsila', 'Umrao Jaan' (1981), 'Ek Hi Bhool', 'Vijeta' (1983), 'Utsav', 'Ijaazat', 'Biwi Ho To Aisi', 'Phool Bane Angaray'.

Her collaboration with stars like Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan , Kiran Kumar and Vinod Mehra as an couple were very much appreciated by the audiences at the peak time of her career. Thus, proving firm on their beliefs, she too managed to deliver 15 hits with Jeetendra and 9 with Amitabh Bachchan respectively.

As stardom arises curiosity among fans raises too and blocks your private life, to which Rekha was no exception. A piece of the negative side of stardom too hit the mesmerizing beauty. She became a talk of the town when her alleged affair with then married actor Amitabh Bachchan became public shaking up the lives of both the stars down to their roots. Soon making it a tale of past, Rekha managed surpass the dark path and commenced with her first love, films.

Taking a step ahead in life, Rekha was seen experimenting with her to be image of the wondrous starlet in her upcoming like 'Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi', 'Aastha', 'Bulandi', 'Zubeidaa', 'Lajja', 'Dil Hai Tumhaara','Bhoot', 'Koi... Mil Gaya', and 'Krrish'. Succeeding her life in boom, Rekha witnessed a tragic past with four failed marriages, with her last wedlock to spouse Mukesh Aggarwal came to an end as he passed away leaving Rekha all alone over again.

Though ups and downs being the part of life, the diva has never showed her low in any of her appearances. She has been a role model to many of the rising stars or already stars in the industry such as Priyanka Chopra and Vidya Balan. Not only being an idol, she has ruled the hearts of almost all guys of all ages surviving in the democratic.

Apart from being loved to core by her wide spread fans, she is well felicitated with a "National Award for Best Actress" for her role in 'Umrao Jaan' (1981) and a "Padma Shri" recently in 2010 by the Government of India for her up-hailing contribution in the Indian cinema. Continuing her best in acting with her future project 'Krrish 3', Rekha recently cherished the honor of serving for the constitution by being a respective member of the honorary Parliament of India (MP).
