Shatrughan Sinha Biography

'Khaamosh!!', almost everyone in India is familiar with this exclamatory expression of anger. With no further doubt this is the signature expression on Bollywood's very own 'shotgun', Shatrughan Sinha. He was born on 9th December, 1945.

Shatrughan Sinha is one of Bollywood's most successful actors and has starred in numerous films in his three decade career. Currently he is the member of Rajya Sabha, where he was elected in the year 2009. He has also been a member of the Rajya Sabha apart from being Union Cabinet Minister , once for Health and Family Welfare and the second time for Shipping. Also he was elected in the 15th Lok Sabha in the year 2009.

He is married to Poonam Sinha and has three children, of which Sonakshi Sinha and Luv Sinha are into acting. The third one being his youngest son Kush Sinha.

Shatrughan Sinha was born in the city of Patna, in Bihar state to Bhubneshwari Prasad Sinha and his mother Shyama Devi Sinha. He was a student of the Patna Science College and also learned acting in the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. His career in the film industry began after he moved to Mumbai.

He had played a minor role of a police inspector in Mohan Sehgal's 1969 film 'Sajan'. Since then he played many supporting roles in the 70s such as 'Mere Apne' by Gulzar in 1971. He was also seen in the film 'Sabak' in 1973. In the year 1973, he won the Bengal Film Journalist's Association Award for his role in 'Tanhaai'.

In the mid-70s, he appeared in films such as 'Dost' (1974), 'Prem Pujari' (1975) and 'Kalicharan' (1976).

In the year 2003, he was awarded the Pride of the Film Industry award at the Stardust Award. The same year, he was awarded the 'Stardust Award for Lifetime Achievement'. He was also awarded the National Kishore Kumar Samman award. In 2011, he won the Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement. In the same year, he received 'The ITA Scroll of Honour' at the Indian Television Academy Awards.

Since then, he has been seen in several films giving full fledged roles as well as supporting roles in films in the coming decades. However, apart from being a film celebrity, he has also been a T.V star and has participated in several T.V shows. In 2008, he was the judge of 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge', season 4 on the STAR One TV. In the following year, he was seen in the season 2 of the show 'Dus Ka Dum'. Currently he is the host of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' Bhojpuri version on the Bhojpuri T.V channel 'Mahua'. His latest role in a film was the role of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. T. Rama Rao in 'Rakht Charitra' by Ram Gopal Varma.

His political activities are also well known. He fought a general election from the Patna Sahib city in Bihar, where he defeated Shekhar Suman. He won 316472 votes out of 552293 votes. In the 13th Lok Sabha, he was cabinet minister for two portfolios. From January 2003 till May 2004 he was the minister for Health and Family Welfare and then he was the cabinet minister for shipping. Currently, he is an active member of Bharatiya Janata Party. In the year 2006, he was made the head of the Culture and Arts Department of the BJP.

On 2nd July 2012, he suffered a respiratory problem for which he was admitted to the Kokilaben Ambani hospital in Mumbai. Though he was discharged on 6th of July, he was re-admitted on 11th July due to breathlessness. He was also operated with a bypass surgery. Later he was shifted to a private room in the hospital from the ICU. He was awarded the Special Award for his 'contribution to the Indian Cinema' by the Kalakar Awards.
