Shekhar Suman Biography

Shekhar Suman can be termed as India's first television superstar for his remarkable contribution in the television industry. Born in an advocate family of Patna, Bihar on 14th June, 1960, he went on to become an actor with his striking looks. He was launched in a TV serial, "Wah Janab", telecasted on Doordarshan Channel.

His exceptional charm resulted him to make his Bollywood debut in Shashi Kapoor's 'Utsav', opposite the stunning Rekha. His performance was appreciated by the critics, but the film went flat at the box-office. In his filmy span, he has shared the screen with some of the most successful actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla and Dimple Kapadia. He has worked in around thirty films, still he didn't attain the stardom, as most of his movies failed to gain commercial success. With his ruined filmy career, he underwent a series of crisis. During this period, he was largely supported by his wife Alka Kapoor, whom he married to on 4th May 1984 and the couple has a son named Adhyayan Suman, who is ascending the steps of Bollywood with his first film 'Jashnn' in the year 2009.

Shekhar returned back to small screen in the year 1993 with "Dekh Bhai Dekh" aired on Doordarshan. This TV show was a huge hit in 1990s and this ignited his lost confidence. This show made him a household name and he was affectionately called as "Chachu" by the kids. And then, there was no looking back for him. There was a rise in his career graph with the telly soaps like "Reporter", "Andaz" and "Amar Prem". His witty punches made him the host of the talk-shows like "Movers and Shakers", "Simply Shekhar" and "Carry On Shekhar". He also hosted a political satire show, "Poll Khol" for five years on Star News. He has even graced the seat of a judge in the comedy shows like "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge", "Comedy Circus" and "Laugh India Laugh".

After excelling as an actor, Shekhar went onto sharpen his dancing skills by participating in a celebrity dance show, "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa - Season 4". He has proved himself as a multi-talented persona, after he debuted singing in a music album, "Kuch Khwaab Aise", composed by Adesh Shrivastava.

Shekhar's spectacular personality has been used to advertise brands like BPL Washing Machine, Coke, Tide, Polar Fans, Priyagold Magic Gold Biscuits, Daawat Basmati Rice, etc.
