Shreya Ghoshal Biography

Shreya Ghoshal, a girl with a golden voice as we can label her because when we listen to her sweet melodious voice, it's a heavenly experience. Shreya was born on 12th March 1984 in Baharampur , West Bengal. She hails from a Bengali Hindu family. She spent her childhood years in Rawatbhata in Rajasthan. Biswajeet Ghoshal is her father who is a nuclear power plant engineer and her mother is a post graduate in literature. Her mother had a deep liking towards art and music. She used to accompany her mother on a harmonium since she was four. Shreya went to Atomic Energy Central School. For doing graduation , she went to SIES College. Shreya is a trained Hindustani Classical Gharana singer. She is the winner of children's special series of Music reality show SA Re Ga Ma. She even won the show as an adult as well. The show got her many opportunities to interact with the industry's famous musicians. The show gave her a platform to prove her talent and get noticed.

Veteran music director Kalyanji Veerji Shah convinced her parents to shift to Mumbai for Shreya's singing career. She got the training for Kalyanji who groomed her personally. Shreya instantly came into the limelight when she got a chance to sing the playback songs for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film 'Devdas'. Shreya's melodious voice and playback singing skill were applauded by one and all. She has sung 5 songs in that film and all of them became hits. She won many awards for her songs in 'Devdas'. She never looked back since then. Over the years she has worked with almost every music director in the industry and everybody has acclaimed her voice and singing abilities. Apart from singing Hindi songs, she has sung songs in many other regional languages like Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Odiya, Tamil, Nepali and Telugu etc.

The present topmost playback singer Shreya Ghoshal has received many prestigious awards as well. She appears in many musical reality shows as a judge and gives tips to the contestant to improve themselves. Shreya was honored for her contribution to the music and U.S. state Ohio governor Ted Strickland declared 26th June as Shreya Ghoshal Day. Her heavenly singing truly makes her numero uno in the present scenario.
