Simi Garewal Biography

Simi Garewal is a lady in white. She is also known as the lady of a class. The beautiful actress is mainly recognized for anchoring the talk show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal aired on Star Plus. The classy actress was born on 17th October, 1947 in Delhi in a Punjabi Sikh family. Her father J.S Garewal was in the military. Her mother was a homemaker. She has a sister named Amrita. Her family migrated to London when Simi was just 6 years old. Her father rose to the rank of brigadier in the army. Simi grew up in England where she studied at Newland House School.

After spending her childhood in England, Simi returned to India in 1961 when she was just a teenager. Her proficiency in English landed her a role in the English Language film 'Tarzan Goes To India'. She debuted opposite actor Feroz Khan in 1962. She was noticed by many filmmakers who later offered roles to her in their films in the 60s and 70s decade.

Some of the famous films in which Simi Garewal was seen are 'Mera Naam Joker' by Raj Kapoor , 'Aranyer Din Ratri' (Bengali) by Satyajit Ray , 'Padatik' by Mrinal Sen and 'Do Badan' by Raj Khosla. She was also seen in 'Siddhartha' an English film by Columbia Pictures opposite Shashi Kapoor. She was also featured in the films like 'Chalte Chalte', 'Kabhie Kabhie' ,' 'Karz' , etc. She was also a part of BBC docudrama 'Maharajas' which was based on the book by Charles Allen. Besides this, she was seen in 'Biwi-O-Biwi' ,'Professor Pyarelal' ,'Insaaf Ka Tarazu' ,'The Burning Train' ,'Ahsaas' ,'Abhi To Jeelein' ,'Naach Utha Sansar' ,'Haath Ki Safai' ,'Namak Haram' ,'Seema' ,'Andaz' ,'Do Boond Pani' ,'Saathi' ,'Teen Deviyan' ,'Aadmi' etc.

In 1980s , she did direction and writing. She established a production company named as Siga Arts International. She produced, directed and hosted a TV series on Doordarshan named as 'It's A Woman's World' in 1983. She made a documentary 'Living Legend Raj Kapoor' for Channel 4 in UK and also a 3 part documentary on Rajiv Gandhi.

Simi has produced and directed a feature film called as 'Rukhsat' and has produced many television commercials. She has won the 1st Prize at 1988 Pater's award in Australia for the same. In 2008, she has appeared as a judge in a TV show named 'Say Shava Shava'. She has anchored a popular talk show named 'Rendezvous with Simi Garewal'. She has recently made a comeback on television with her new talk show 'India's Most Desirable' on Star Plus.

Simi was in a relationship with Pakistani Businessman Salman Taseer who later became the Governor of Punjab in Pakistan. She got married with Ravi Mohan but later divorced.
