Sudhir Mishra Biography

Sudhir Mishra is a vividly known hard core art film director of Indian Cinema. His most notable movies are 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi' and 'Chameli'.

Sudhir Mishra was born and raised in Lucknow into an affluent family. He is the grandson of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Dwarka Prasad Mishra and son of D.N. Mishra, the founder member of Lucknow Film society. He did graduation from Delhi University where he met Badal Sircar and formed a theatre group known as Workshop Theatre and worked on several plays with him. After one and a half year Sudhir along with Sircar came to Pune. He got a chance to spend time at FTII where his younger brother Sudhir Mishra studied through which he learned much of cinema. Sudhir never studied at the institute himself.

He gradually moved to Mumbai in 1980 and began his career as an assistant director and scriptwriter in Kundan Shah 's classic comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) and then worked under Saeed Akhtar Mirza in 'Mohan Joshi Haazir Ho ' (1984) and with Vidhu Vinod Chopra in 'Khamoshh' (1985).

He made his directorial debut with movie 'Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin' in 1987 which got the National Film Award for Best first film of a director. Thereafter, he made acclaimed movies like 'Dharavi'(1991), 'Main Zinda Hoon'(1988), 'Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin' (1996) and 'Chameli' (2003) and his most successful movie till date 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi' (2005). It was followed by 'Khoya Khoya Chand' and 'Yeh Saali Zindagi' which did not do a good job. His last directorial was 'Inkaar' starring his all time favorite actress Chitrangada Singh and actor Arjun Rampal which could not live up to its hype.

Sudhir's Next is 'Mehrunissa ' starring Amitabh Bachchan , Rishi Kapoor and Chitrangada Singh .
